How does the heated air technology work to kill lice?

Our FDA-cleared heated air device uses a specific combination of temperature and airflow to dehydrate lice and their eggs (nits) instantly. Because lice are mostly water, the controlled heat dries them out so they can no longer survive or hatch. This method is 99% effective at killing nits, which are often the hardest part to remove with traditional chemical shampoos.

Can my child go back to school immediately after a treatment at Lice Beware?

Yes! Because our dual-method approach (heated air plus manual combing) is so thorough, children are typically 100% lice-free by the time they leave our Mt. Pleasant clinic. We provide you with a treatment certificate that most Charleston area schools accept, allowing your child to return to the classroom the very same day or the following morning.

Do I need to deep clean my entire house if my child has lice?

Not at all! Lice can only survive for about 24 to 48 hours off a human head. We recommend a simple '24-hour rule': wash the bedding and towels used in the last day on high heat, and put stuffed animals in a hot dryer for 30 minutes. Focus on items that had direct head contact. You don't need to bag everything in the house or hire a cleaning crew!
