Teens are in constant contact with each other, whether at a sleepover, or hanging out at the mall and are always taking selfies. While we don’t believe selfies are solely responsible for the recent spike in the outbreak of teen cases, it is definitely a contributing factor. Lice can move very quickly! We know that teens are more independent and don’t need their parents to wash or brush their hair, therefore, the infestation is more severe by the time parents realize their child has lice.
So, what can we do as teen parents? We can definitely pay attention when a child is itching their scalp. We can ask them to comb their hair with a good nit comb periodically after a shower. We can encourage them to wear their hair up as often as possible. We can provide them with a good prevention spray and make sure it gets used. Most importantly, we can remind them that lice happens to everyone and our teens should not be embarrassed to let us OR their close friends know that they have lice! When in doubt, call us at Lice Beware at any time with questions or to schedule a head check!
